THE 80th ANNIVERSARY OF THE GREAT CRASH OF 1929: LAW, MARKETS, AND THE ROLE OF THE STATE Created on August 08, 2010
"The only function of economic forecasting is to make astrology look respectable." ~John Kenneth Galbraith.
As Editor in Chief of Nexus: Chapman’s Journal of Law and Policy, I am pleased to announce our 15th edition entitled “The 80th Anniversary of the Great Crash Of 1929: Law, Markets, and the Role of the State.” This year’s journal promises to offer an interesting and timely topic. While the United States economy struggles through hard times, references are continuously being made to the Great Crash of 1929. Thus, Nexus asks the question: in the eighty years since Black Tuesday, what have we learned about the State’s responses to an economic meltdown.
As with any question as complicated as this, we are hoping to hear from many different viewpoints. We will be including topics ranging from the practical regulatory responses in the current financial crisis to the more philosophical questions of the legitimacy of government intervention. Be sure to mark your calendars for the Nexus Symposium, Friday October 30th, 2009 at Chapman University School of Law.
